Prayer and Support Ministry

The Prayer and Support Ministry is the intercessory ministry of SMCC. We recognize prayer as one of the critical and blessed tools given to us by God our Father. Prayer is a primary vehicle of communication with the Father, empowered by Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

The Bible provides notice that each believer is instructed to pray. We are told to "pray without ceasing." We believe wholeheartedly that a praying church is strong church. Prayer provides one of the means for standing in support of others who may be physically distant from us or whose needs we cannot fully understand or address.

Scripture teaches the importance of prayer. Jesus prayed. Even at his darkest hour, He prayed to the Father in the garden of Gethsemane. His disciples realized the importance of prayer and besought Jesus to teach them how to effective engage in prayer to the Father. Hence, we implore all the members of our congregation to have a vibrant, effective prayer life. Our weekly time of prayer in the sanctuary provides an opportunity for corporate prayer and praise reports of God's answer to our prayers.

Our prayers are not just asking God to move on our behalf. Our prayers also ask God to direct our actions to be in harmony with His will. Often God gives us the resources and the opportunities to help and support others. The support aspect of this ministry is in reaching out to others who may be hurting, lonely or simply need a spiritual uplift. In the words of the old cliche, we enter the sanctuary to worship and leave it to serve others.
