A Portrait of Our First-Lady
Sarah Lewis-Durham, First Lady of Saints' Memorial Community Church, a native of Yorktown, Virginia, is the youngest of three children born to Thomas and Sarah Wilmore. She retired from the NJ Department of Corrections June 1997 after twenty five years of service as Executive Assistant to the Director.
Sister Durham joined Saints' Memorial Community Church January 1990. Shortly thereafter, she was appointed Church Clerk , and served in that position until 2003 when she accepted an Administrative Assistant position at St. James Baptist Church, Beverly, NJ.
She is married to Reverend Eddie L. Durham, Pastor of Saints' Memorial Community Church, and presently serves as his Executive Assistant, overseeing the Administrative Office procedures. In addition, she serves as President of the Women's Ministry and Vice President of the Deaconess Board.
When not working at the church, you will more than likely find her at L & L Travel a Home Based Agency, which she is co-owner. This position, in addition to arranging trips for others, allows her the opportunity to visit many exciting places. November 2005, she and Pastor Durham were blessed to travel to Israel on a seven day tour of the Holy Land.
She previously served Vice President of Les Treize Amicables, Inc., a non-profit social group which provides book awards to deserving high school graduates each year, as well as Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas gifts to needy families in the surrounding communities. Les Treize Amicables, Inc's motto is "Reach Back to Give Back."
She and Pastor Durham are the proud parents of five children, three daughter-in-laws, one son-in-law, and eleven grandchildren. She is most grateful to God for giving her a praying grandmother, mother and aunt who were her role models of "virtuous women."
One of her favorite scriptures is: "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?." - Psalms 27:1
She acknowledges the day she accepted God as her personal Savior as the best day of her life.
"To God be the Glory for the things He has done!"
